The RunDown

August 22, 2022

We had a little bit of this and a little bit of that this weekend for our sports fans. The end of August has entered the chat. Pre-season football, Pay-per-view UFC cards, and MLB playoff pushes. What a time to crack a beer.

UFC 278:

This weekend we saw one of the baddest individuals on the planet snap his 19 fight win streak. Kamaru Usman got knocked out in the 5th round of Saturday night's main event of the evening. Leon Edwards handed the former champion his first loss in 9 years and improved his record to 20-3. With many believing that Edwards was behind and losing late in the fight, he delivered a head kick to shock the world and take ownership of the Walterweight belt.

Yankees Blow:

The struggles continue in the Bronx. The AL East Lead for the Yankees seems like it is slowly dwindling away as they continue to find ways to lose games. The bats are dead and there is now a bullpen issue. Scoring 0-2 runs a game simply won’t cut it in October. They finally brought up some young studs to try to create a spark in the lineup. Oswaldo Cabrera and Estavan Florial were called up in efforts to light a match for this struggling Yankees offense. Josh Donaldson and Aaron Hicks seem like lost causes at this point and once Yankees fans are over you, they will let you know. With some more moves to be made and key players like Stanton and Severino to return within the month, hope is not lost just yet in the Bronx. But the worries are there.

Cheap Shot on Kayvon

New York Giants number one pick Kayvon Thibodeaux suffered quite the scare in Sunday's 25-22 preseason win over the Bengals. The 5th overall pick took a shot to the knee and it simply did not look pretty. The block was low and cheap in my opinion. This had not just Giant fans, but football fans all shaking their heads. Thibodeaux waved off the cart and was able to walk off on his own power. ACL and MCL tears are of fear, but Kayvon says he feels good about the situation. Now we hold our breaths for the next 24 hours until the tests come back to see how “good” our young buck really is.
