Week 1 Observations
September 12th, 2022

Red Zone on all day, elbow deep in a bag of chips, empty beer cans stacked like the Freedom Tower. Football is back. Week one is just about in the books. It was an action packed day filled with good vibes and heavy emotions. Fantasy football is a sports fans second job. They are a coach and a General Manager at the same time. Today we will focus on the fantasy football overreactions from week 1.
Rams Backfield:
Going into the season, there was a tad bit of hype around Cam Ackers. The 23 year old had expectations to be the clear cut Rb1 in the Rams backfield this year. He was going way too early in drafts and falling around the 3rd and 4th round. Well, it didn’t exactly look like it was his job. Darrel Henderson out-touched Ackers 13 to 3 and clearly was the lead back for the Rams who struggled Thursday night against the Bills. Henderson only rushed for 47 yards, but had a nice 5 receptions to go along with that. This backfield is something to monitor moving forward for sure as fantasy owners might’ve taken an L if they fell for the trap.
Saquon Back-ly
Saquon Barkley is so back. He took 18 carries for 164 yards and TD, while adding 30 yards off of 6 receptions. Saquon took the Giants to 1-0 to start the season and fantasy owners have to be feeling good. A young buck that went in the early 3rd round of most drafts. This could be the steal of the year.
AJ Brown
An absolute debut for the new addition in Philly. This dude got zero love this off season and was drafted early, but possibly not early enough. AJ Brown brought in 10 receptions for 155 yards on Sunday in their win against the Lions. Clearly Jalen Hurts favorite target to start the season. Soft schedule within a weak NFC East, and this guy could be a first round draft pick next year.
Joe Burrow
Joey Burr might’ve passed for 338 yards, but it took OT and 4 interceptions to do so. The Bengals lost in OT to the Steelers, while Joe Burrow was tossing picks left and right. Tee Higgins went down with a concussion and his O-Line gave him no love as he was sacked 7 times. Ja’Marr Chase is in fact that guy, but that turnover number is an ugly line. Doesn’t help that he sadly has a history of injury now and getting beat up the way he did won’t help.
What is your biggest takeaway from week one?
